Leyton Orient secured a 1-0 win over Barnet at Brisbane Road in the second round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Moses Odubajo grabbed the decisive goal in the first half when he raced on to Dean Cox's pass and fired home confidently.

The Bees have failed to win this season and it was no real surprise that, in front of a sparse home crowd, they struggled to create many real openings throughout an uninspiring encounter.

Russell Slade made five changes from the side beaten by Sheffield United at the weekend. Mathieu Baudry and Odubajo were brought into the defence with Lloyd James named in midfield. Michael Symes and David Mooney started in attack.

Kevin Lisbie missed out due to his hamstring injury and Ben Chorley was serving a one-match suspension. Lee Cook and Martin Rowlands were rested while Leon McSweeney had to settle for a place on the bench.

The visitors had their fight sight of goal after 15 minutes but Jake Hyde's free-kick floated harmlessly over the bar.

Orient had their first attack of the game but Mooney's low strike drifted narrowly wide of Graham Stack's post.

The hosts had another opportunity but James snatched at his effort and it flew well over the crossbar.

The O's were slowly improving and they created another chance but Mooney's ambitious overhead kick failed to find the target.

Orient's pressure was rewarded after 25 minutes with the opening goal. Cox sent in a teasing pass and Odubajo kept his composure to drill a shot into the bottom corner of the net.

Slade's side thought they had doubled their lead through Mooney but his volley was ruled out for offside.

Ryan Allsop was forced into his first save when Mark Byrne's free-kick was flicked on by Clovis Kamdjo but it went straight into the goalkeeper's arms.

The O's had a decent chance at the start of the second half when Mooney flicked the ball on and Jimmy Smith fired his effort well over the bar.

Barnet almost found a way through for the equaliser after a back header from Odubajo which almost fell perfectly for Byrne.

Odubajo fancied his chances of getting his second of the night after a run but his shot flew over Stack's goal.

Orient threatened again through Cox but his dipping effort went just past the post.

The hosts made a double substitution midway through the half when Affy Obafemi and McSweeney replaced Mooney and Cox.

Barnet were still hoping to grab an equaliser but the League Two basement side were offering little end product in attack.

Marc Laird was introduced as the final change for the hosts in place of James in the final ten minutes.

The visitors had four minutes of injury time and keeper Stack came up for a late corner but they were unable to find the equaliser as Orient advanced in the competition.
