OUTGOING keeper Jens Lehmann insists Arsene Wenger would not have been afforded the same leniency if he was the coach of a German side.
Lehmann will leave Arsenal this summer after five years at the club and is understood to have agreed a two-year deal with Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart. But the German international has been frustrated by the team's barren period over the last three seasons, which have all ended trophyless.
And he believes that Wenger is fortunate not to have been shown the door in that time.
He said: "Arsene Wenger is the club - even if he does not own it. You could not imagine what would happen without him.
"We have won nothing and that is not optimal."
Lehmann has won the Premier League title and an FA Cup with the Gunners during his time with the club, but he insists Wenger would come under stronger fire in his homeland for the club's recent lack of success.
"With structures as in Germany where the coach is just the coach Wenger would be under completely different pressure."
