Gunners starlet Walcott helps young Lions to victory
ARSENAL'S Theo Walcott was on the scoresheet as England U21 defeated Wales U21 2-0 in a friendly at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground yesterday.
Playing up front alongside Aston Villa's Gabriel Agbonlahor, Walcott (pictured) doubled England's lead on 25 minutes, cutting in from the left-hand side after receiving a short corner from Tottenham's Tom Huddlestone and unleashing a shot that was deflected into the net.
Huddlestone had put England in front after 19 minutes when he converted a penalty after Middlesbrough's Adam Johnson was brought down in the box.
And manager Stuart Pearce tipped five of his youngsters, including Walcott, to impress national boss Fabio Capello in the friendlies with the USA and Trinidad and Tobago after the 19-year-old forward was selected in the full squad.
"We've got a squad of 31 in the seniors and the bottom line is you might lose a couple through injury - it's a perfect opportunity with the two matches to look at one or two of them," said Pearce.
"If any of these get on the pitch they will do themselves credit."
