The Conference Cup – Round Two

Chingford booked their place in third round with an 83-run victory over Witham on Sunday.

Witham won the toss and opted to bowl, a decision that backfired as Chingford posted a strong score of 217.

Chris Baldock played excellently for 67 while Alfie Taylor (43) and Paul Shawyer (36) made valuable scores.

Witham were always behind the rate required and were eventually bowled out for 134 as Taylor, Ben MacGregor, Liam Lannen and Andrew MacGregor all took two wickets each.

Chingford will face Hampstead in the next round.

1st XI Premier Division

Wanstead & Snaresbrook drew at home to Ilford as rain played a significant part in the result.

Having been put into bat, the hosts finished on 190 for four after 43 overs thanks to good scores from John Chambers (78), Arfan Akram (43) and Rehan Hassan (39 not out).

With the first innings completed, the skies opened for much of the afternoon and Ilford were left on 117 for three after 25 overs.

Maurice Chambers bowled ten overs for Wanstead and took two for 33 while Mohammed Fayyaz Khan took one for six off two overs.

Wanstead are away to Shenfield on Saturday.

Second XI Division Two

In a rain-affected match, West Essex Seconds drew with Horndon on the Hill Seconds.

West Essex batted well to post 230 for the loss of four in 34 overs.

At the close of play Horndon were 177 for three.

On Saturday West Essex Seconds play Gidea Park & Romford Seconds at home.

Third XI Premier Division

Wanstead & Snaresbrook Thirds are top of the table after beating Ilford Thirds by 108 runs.

Batting first, Wanstead declared on 186 for nine as Mohammed Shahriyar top-scored with 48 while Mehad Khan (41) and Giri Rathakrishnan (23) also made valuable contributions.

In reply, Ilford made a solid start but crumbled in the middle-order, sinking to 78 all out.

Alan Lord was Wanstead’s most potent threat, taking four for 17 while Mehad Khan was also on form, finishing with three for 26.

Wanstead Thirds visit Chelmsford Thirds on Saturday.

Third XI Division One

Buckhurst Hill Thirds won the battle at the top of the table, beating second-placed Wanstead & Snaresbrook Fourths to stay in poll position.

Wanstead batted first but Ben Phillips (20) aside failed to make an impact and were bowled out for 80.

Adam Peters (3 for 27) and George Hick (three for 19) were Buckhurst’s best bowlers.

Buckhurst reached their target with ease as opener Shaid Mohammed Shahid Maan remained unbeaten on 31 and 28 respectively to record an 8-wicket win.

Wanstead Fourths are at home on Saturday to Chelmsford Fourths. Buckhurst Hill Thirds are away to Hornchurch Thirds.

Third XI Division Two

West Essex Thirds held on for a draw against Hornchurch Fourths.

Hornchurch were bowled out for 181 as Rehan Shamim took three for 45 and Paul Griffiths finished on four for 20.

West Essex never looked likely to beat that total, with only Azhar Ali (25) making a significant score but Yaseen Ali and Griffiths held on with one wicket to spare to make sure the spoils were shared.

West Essex Thirds play Old Southendian & Southchurch Thirds on Saturday.

Fourth XI Division Three

Old Parkonians Fourths registered an eight-wicket win over Southend-on-Sea Sixths to move into fourth in the table.

Choosing to bat first, Southend scored 194 all out. Vijay Vijayanathan was in impressive form with the ball, claiming five for 36.

The star of the show however came in the batting as Gobichandru Jeevakumar hit 104 to lay the foundations for a successful chase. Adam Goldman also played well for 54 to see Parks home in 32 overs.

The Fourths play Hainault & Clayhall Fifths on Saturday.

Essex League – Dukes Essex T20 Competition, Group H

South Woodford are top of the table after two games, beating Harlow Town by seven wickets.

Winning the toss and deciding to bat, Harlow scored 84 with Krishan Vadher and Jake McMullen both taking three wickets each.

Woodford cruised to the total required though, as Joe Craddock (17), Max Shirt (21), Ashley Leat (17) and Kevin Sargent (10 not out) guided their team to the win.

Wanstead & Snaresbrook’s Twenty20 team beat Woodford Wells by eight wickets last Thursday.

Batting first, Wells finished on 135 for six with Zain Iqbal top-scoring on 41.

Rory Ellison also hit 30 while Wanstead’s Joe Ellis-Grewal took three for 17 with the ball.

In reply however Wells made light work of the target as Arfan Akram laid the foundations for victory with an impressive 76.

Wanstead play Harlow Town away tonight while Woodford Wells are at home to Chingford.

Chingford recorded a 78-run victory over Harlow Town with Alfie Taylor starring.

Taylor carried Chingford’s innings, scoring 84 out of a total of 148, before taking four wickets as Harlow made a timid attempt at reaching the target, scoring just 70.

Dukes Essex T20 Competition, Group C

Buckhurst Hill stay top of their group after beating Hornchurch by 51 runs.

Batting first, Buckhurst Hill finished on 219 for four thanks to an explosive century from Josh Peters.

Peters hit 102, including seven fours and eight sixes and was ably supported by Alexander Maskell (64).

Hornchurch made a good effort in reply but came up short, finishing on 168 for seven.

Darren Ironside took three for 31 for Buckhurst Hill.

Fives & Heronians beat Gidea Park & Romford by 57 runs.

Fives lost the toss and were put into bat, scoring 155 for the loss of four.

Ben Britton top scored on 49 and Rizwan Akram hit 36.

Gidea Park were never at the runrate required to win and finished on 98 for eight.

Joseph Samuel was the pick of the Fives attack, taking three for 18.

Fives are at home tonight against Hornchurch.

The Essex Sunday League – Premier Division

South Woodford’s Sunday XI beat Harold Wood A team by 20 runs to maintain their 100 per cent record so far this season.

Having been put into bat first, Woodford posted 143 all out as Krishan Vadher (33), Harry Neicho (39) and Tayyib Iqbal (27) all made good scores.

Harold Wood started well in reply but the last eight batsman recorded just nine runs between them as Woodford confirmed a 20-run win.

Jake McMullen was the pick of the bowlers with four for 24.

The Essex Sunday League – West Division

Loughton’s Sunday XI cruised to the top of the table with a 15-run win over lowly Ace.

Choosing to bat first, Loughton scored 175 with Asim Aslam (46), Adam Vinson (31) and Shahab Umer (34) all settling in at the crease.

Ace made a brave attempt in the chase but were bowled out for 160 thanks to four wickets each from Aslam and Riki Laird.

Loughton play 3 Caps away on Sunday.

Woodford Wells are bottom of the table after losing to Ilford Lions by 63 runs.

Ilford posted 206 in their 30 overs which was too big for Wells who were bowled out for 143.

Women’s Cricket Southern League – Premier Division

Loughton Women cruised to a 111-victory over bottom of the table Brighton & Hove.

Loughton used their 50 overs to post 272 for the loss of only three and that total proved beyond Brighton who could only manage 161.

Loughton are fifth in the league.
