Second XI Premier Division

Simon Correya claimed four for 34 as South Woodford Seconds picked up a comfortable seven-wicket win over Wanstead and Snaresbrook Seconds.

Visitors Wanstead were poor with the bat early on and after seeing the top of the order fail to deliver, it fell to Jack Lord (47 not out) and Mahesh Velani (40) to attempt to rescue the innings.

Steven Ramdial also weighed in with 32 but Wanstead were left with a light looking 157 all out to defend.

And that total proved to be the case by the close of play as Tayyib Iqbal (57) and Saeed Piperdi (36) put on the runs to carry South Woodford to a victorious total of 161 for four.

An unbeaten knock of 94 from Paul Shawyer guided Chingford Seconds to a five-wicket triumph over Shenfield Seconds.

Martin Allen (52) and James Burgess (57) had Shenfield off on the right footing but their lead was not followed and although George Ballington made 34, they closed on 224 for eight; Neil Dial’s three wickets coming at an expensive 88 runs in reply.

The Chingford reply was built around Shawyer’s 94, with Joe Samuel (34), Adil Daniyal (33) and Matthew Smith (33 not out) also making important contributions to a total of 227 for five.

Farhad Uddin took three for 20 but it was not enough to prevent Woodford Wells Seconds falling to a five-wicket defeat against Brentwood Seconds.

A sluggish start with the bat from hosts Woodford Wells appeared to have been halted when Robert Leiper (46) and Nicholas Sims (27) took charge.

However, Wells faltered once more and could only make 158 for nine after 52 overs.

Richard Walford (74) led the Brentwood response and although Uddin claimed three for 20, he alone was unable to prevent the away side making 159 for five.

Second XI Division One

James McKay’s four for 23 was not enough as Loughton Seconds clung on to a draw at Fives & Heronians Seconds.

Fives had looked set for victory as they set a total of 218 for nine, thanks largely to the 90 scored by their third man in. Neil Brathwaite also contributed 49 as the top of the order laid the foundations.

Abdul Nasir (two for 21) and Asim Aslam (two for 250) helped restrict Fives.

And after an encouraging start which saw Rohail Anwar make 44, Loughton made life difficult for their visitors and held out to close on 162 for eight and secured a share of the spoils, despite McKay’s fine spell with the ball.

Buckhurst Hill Seconds made light work of Hadleigh & Thundersley Seconds, cruising to a seven-wicket win.

With Hadleigh all out for 167, Buckhurst made easy going of reaching the required total, hitting 171 for the loss of just three wickets.

Second XI Division Two

West Essex Seconds swept aside Stanford Le Hope by ten wickets after Omar Afzal hit an unbeaten half-century.

Waqas Butt (four for 22) helped skittle out Stanford for a miserable 88 before Afzal (58) and Miftha Islam (28 not out) guided West Essex to 89.

Second XI Division Three

Woodford Green Seconds snuck a draw at home to Benfleet Seconds thanks to a fine 79 not out from Sayaad Hussain.

Benfleet had put on a solid total of 215 all out after being put into bat, with John Bull’s 73 the pick of innings.

Yasin Mohammed took three for 44 for the hosts but Rishbah Mehan’s four wickets came at a cost of 72 runs.

A less-than-spectacular start was soon forgotten when Hussain stepped up to reach 79 but only Marc Cologne (27) and Nic Bruce (22) reached double figures after than point, leaving Woodford battling for a draw.

Samuel Coelho took four for 32 but Woodford Green held on with a total of 176 for seven.

Epping Seconds came up 66 runs short against Horndon on the Hill Seconds after faltering with both bat and ball.

Put into bat, Horndon soon made life difficult for the hosts as James Stitson (102) and Danny Freeman (60) cut loose.

Having reached 220 for four, Horndon then picked apart the Epping attack, with San Tetlow’s 36 the pick of an otherwise forgettable response.

A brief flutter of resistance from the tail was quickly undone, with Sam Wilson’s 19 delaying the inevitable.

Oakfield Parkonians Seconds struck lucky against Walthamstow Seconds as they held on desperately to draw.

A total of 201 for seven looked reasonable, with Parks’ Indipreet Bhatia (61) and Eshun Kalley (33) providing the key scores.

But a big 98 from Erantha Muthukumarana and 58 from Nigel Bloch carried the home side to 200 for nine – a whisker from victory.

Dilan Patel claimed five wickets but at the cost of 78 runs from his 14 overs.
