WEST ESSEX go into the last game with skipper Mark Vowles firing the message to his players: Let's finish the season on a high note.
The Rolls Park Boys had nothing to play for against Benfleet on Saturday and it showed as the team limped to a lacklustre defeat.
That came just a week after another disappointing defeat against Old Brentwoods had ruled out the possibility of promotion.
"We looked like a team with nothing to play for against Benfleet and got what we deserved," admitted Vowles.
"It was a disappointing display and not something we wanted coming towards the end of the season.
"We've worked so hard this year and had been there or there abouts.
"But the wheels have come off. We haven't performed nearly as well as we can in the last two games."
However, with third place still to play for, Vowles has told his troops to put in one last big effort in the weekend's final game at home to Stanford-le-Hope.
"We need to finish the season on a high and to get as high up the table as we possibly can," he said.
"It is a dead rubber for both sides, but we're at home we want to go out on the basis of not losing the last game.
"It is important we put in a decent performance and take something positive going into next season."
