Daggers slump to defeat at Stanley

Accrington Stanley 1
Dagenham and Redbridge 0

(League Two)

DAGENHAM'S Football League status remains in the balance after a dispiriting defeat at Accrington tonight.

The east Londoners matched their opponents for large periods of the match but were undone by Phil Edwards' first goal for the Lancashire club.

The defender headed home two minutes after the interval from an Ian Craney corner.

Daggers had their chances to pull level, Shane Huke seeing his effort cleared off the goalline, and Paul Benson heading over when well placed.

And John Still's men could not take advantage when Stanley full back Leam Richardson was sent off late on for a second bookable offence.

While victory all-but ensures League Two football for Stanley next season, defeat leaves Daggers just four points above the drop zone with four games to play.

Dag & Red: Roberts, Smith (Taiwo 79), Arber, Uddin, Huke, Southam (Nurse 61), Rainford, Gain, Griffiths, Benson, Strevens. unused subs: Hogan, Sloma, Boardman.
