Daggers midfielder leaves by mutual consent
Dave Rainford in action for the Daggers
Dave Rainford in action for the Daggers

DAGGERS midfielder Dave Rainford has left the club by mutual consent after being offered a senior post as a teacher at Barking Abbey School.

Rainford was the only part-time player in the Football League last season, juggling his playing commitments with Dagenham and Redbridge and his job as a teacher. But after being offered this latest post, the 29-year-old requested to opt out of his contract with the Daggers in order to further his professional career.

The midfielder told the club's official website: "There is a level of commitment required to play League Two football which I have managed to achieve this season alongside my job. I've always said if I can't meet that 100 per cent I'd rather not play."

Rainford admitted it has been "a dream" to play for Dagenham and insisted that he will carry on playing football at a lower level.

"Living locally, it was always my dream to play for Dagenham and Redbridge and my two years at the club have been nothing short of fantastic. I've still got a lot to give football but I must look ahead and think of the future too.

"A return to part time football will suit both my family and I.

"I've got so many memories from my time at the club and I hope I've given the supporters some too. I hope the club continues to progress and the fans continue their amazing support."
