DAGENHAM and Redbridge have been handed a dream first round tie in the Carling Cup.

The Daggers will face Championship giants Reading at Victoria Road the week commencing August 11.

The Royals were relegated from the Premier League last season and the tie is likely to attract a bumper crowd to Victoria Road.

While the club in its current guise of Dagenham and Redbridge, has never faced Reading, the Royals did visit Victoria Road for an FA Cup tie in 1967 with Dagenham FC. On that day the Stadium attendance record was set when 7200 crammed into the ground to see the visitors win 1-0.

The Daggers first taste of the Carling Cup ended in a 2-1 home defeat, although John Still's men put up a spirited display and will be hoping for a repeat against Steve Coppel's outfit in August.
