Dagenham and Redbridge 1
Port Vale 1
(League Two)
DAGENHAM AND REDBRIDGE dropped their first points of the season after a 1-1 draw with Port Vale.
Having scored nine goals in their opening two games, the Daggers flew out of the traps.
It took just five minutes for the east Londoners to open the scoring, Paul Benson blasting home a loose ball following a goalmouth scramble.
But Vale equalised just moments later with their first attack of the match.
Simon Richman had time and space to roll the ball across goal where Marc Richards was on hand to level the tie.
Both sides had chances to go in front, with Daggers best effort falling to full back Scott Griffiths, who wasted a good opportunity when through on the keeper.
Benson also crashed a shot against the crossbar.
After the break Jon Nurse, filling in on the left wing, just missed the target with a header, while Benson forced Vale stopper Joe Anyon into a fine save.
The striker then clipped the bar for a second time.
At the other end, Luke Rodgers made the most of a slip by Anwar Uddin, only to send his looping effort just over the crossbar.
Visiting full back Sam Stockley was sent off with ten minutes to go following a second booking - but the Daggers could not make the most of the numerical advantage.
Dag & Red: Roberts, Okuonghae, Uddin, Arber, Griffiths, Saunders, Taiwo, Gain, Nurse (Graham 78), Strevens, Benson. Unused subs: Thompson, Boardman, Southam, Nwokeji.
