WHILE prolific strikers Paul Benson and Ben Strevens didn't hit the net on Saturday at Morcambe, Dagenham and Redbrige still got a win that sent them back to the top of the table.
Midfielder Soloman Taiwo and Sam Saunders netted in the 2-1 win, and Benson, who has scored three goals in the league so far - the same total as strike partner Strevens - believes that it is vital that other people in the team hit the net on a regular basis if the Daggers are to have a successful league campaign.
He said: “We know that between us myself and Streves have got plenty of goals between us, and if we are going challenge for promotion we probably need to get close to 40 between us, if we stay fit.
“But as a team we've talked how important it is for the other lads to get amongst the goals, because that was perhaps one of the reasons we struggled a bit last season.
“So it was nice to see Sam and Soloman get on the scoresheet, because it was another excellent win for us.”
And Benson, who took little time to get back on the scoresheet himself with two goals in the 4-2 win over Barnet in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash with Barnet on Tuesday night, feels a rare overnight stay in Southport helped bring the camp even closer together.
He added: “We don't get too many overnight stop overs during the season, so when we get them we do try to make the most of them.
“The team spirit here is always great and when the lads get together last weekend it only helps to bring us closer together.”
And the 28-year-old striker is hoping that John Stills' men can maintain their lead at the top of League Two, with a repeat of last year's win at London rivals Brentford on Saturday.
He continued: “We've had a great start to the season and hopefully we can keep that going at Brentfor on Saturday.
“It wont be an easy game, and it would certainly be nice if we could get another win there like the excellent 3-2 victory we got there last season.”
