Daggers boss hints at further signings

DAGENHAM & Redbridge boss John Still is in the process of polishing his squad for a second half assault on the League Two promotion places and is lining up moves for ‘one or two’ new signings.

The manager has already brought in two new players during the January transfer window. The versatile Phil Walsh, who can play up front or at the centre of defence, has been welcomed on board from Dorchester Town, while Portsmouth’s young midfielder Marlon Pack has also joined the Daggers on a month’s loan, following a lengthy pursuit for his signature.

But he admits he could yet add to the squad.

“I don’t rule out bringing in at least one other new face before the end of the month, maybe two.”

Still is already pleased to have snared a long-term target in Pack.

“I was aware of Marlon last season, when we played Pompey’s junior sides and took Matt Ritchie on a full season’s loan,” Still told the club’s website. “Normally, I don’t like short-term solutions but I’m hopeful that we can make a longer term arrangement with Portsmouth if Marlon does well in his first month.”

One man that has gotten away from the Victoria Road outfit is Gillingham midfielder Adam Miller, who had impressed during his two months with the Daggers.

“Gillingham didn’t want a fee for Adam, but his pay structure there was much higher than what we have here,” explained Still. “Adam has done wonderfully for us in his time at Daggers but we just couldn’t keep him.”

Still is hopeful of securing Chelsea youngster Nanna Ofori-Twumasi on a new short-term deal after the full-back’s two-month loan contract expired.

Meanwhile, Danny Spiller has also put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at Victoria Road until the end of the season.

The midfielder will be eager to run into better luck during the second half of the campaign, as he has been forced to watch from the sidelines after an injury-plagued first six months at the club.

The team will be desperate to get back on the field after the weather played havoc with games across the country, with matches against Rotherham and Torquay falling victim to the snow and ice.

Next up is a home clash against Crewe, and Still is eager to get his players out on the pitch to reignite their ailing promotion campaign, following defeats to Northampton and Cheltenham.

“We haven’t been able to arrange any games at academy or reserve level, so haven’t been getting the match practice we need,” he added. “We’re pretty desperate that Saturday’s home game with Crewe goes ahead.”
