FIVES AND HERONIANS get their season underway with a trip to Harlow on Saturday and the side are looking to go one better than last year and gain promotion.
The team narrowly missed out on the required top two finish last time around, finishing just eight points behind second place. But captain Terry Ballard believes his squad has the ability to make the step up after bringing in several new faces.
Ed Buxton has arrived from local rivals Old Parkonians, while the side also welcome Carlos Remy, Jean Dixon and Tom Clark to the set-up.
"We've had a few games already and the new boys look good," said Ballard. "They've managed to score a few runs and take some wickets so it bodes well for the new season.
"We're very much looking forward to getting the first game underway and if we play well we have a chance of getting promoted."
Their opponents on the opening day have also strengthened their squad and Ballard is expecting a tough test first up.
"I know Harlow have brought a few players in but it will be interesting to see how we fare.
"It will be a good competitive game and with a bit of luck we can get the season started with a win."
