Wanstead skipper believes it's time for his side to grow up

WANSTEAD skipper Arfan Akram finally believes it is time for his young troops to come of age this season.
The Herons have always looked in contention to land the Premier League title over the last three years, but inexperience in the ranks has seen them slip up at vital times.
But with the Overton Drive outfit another year older and wiser, Akram believes it is time for Wanstead to land their first Premier League crown in eight years.
He said: "It is time to stop using the excuse that we are young team, because all the lads are a lot more mature now.
"Yes we are still a young team, but after coming close over the last three years I'd like to think the players have learnt from those experiences.
"I really believe we've got the team to challenge for the title and hopefully we can see the job through this time."
And Akram believes a poor performance last weekend, which saw them crash out of the League Cup with a seven wicket defeat against Saffron Walden is surprisingly just the result his players needed ahead of the Premier League curtain raiser at Chingford.
He continued: "We performed very poorly on Saturday and I think it opened up the players eyes that they can't just turn up and expect to win.
"So in someway's it might just be the kick up the backside we needed before the Chingford game.
"We know it wont be easy this weekend especially being a derby game, and I just hope we rise to the challenge and put on a better performance than we did last Saturday."
