Akram remains confident in Wanstead ability

6:05pm Thursday 3rd July 2008

WANSTEAD skipper Arfan Akram is expecting a testing match against Gidea Park and Romford on Saturday despite a 35-point difference between the two sides.

A superb century from the captain last week helped the Herons rack up a huge 309 against Brentwood.

But despite their best efforts the bowlers couldn't take the final two wickets that would have seen them extend their lead at the top of the division.

The deficit between Wanstead and second-placed Upminster is currently 31 points, and Akram remains confident that his side can maintain their unbeaten streak if they stay true to their attacking values.

"We're very proud with the way we played last week as we stuck to our game plans and played positive cricket," said Akram.

"Gidea Park will be a tough game for us because they are a good team who play good cricket but we know that if we perform to our best we can beat anybody."
