Kirnon believes Chingford have turned the corner

5:59pm Thursday 3rd July 2008

CHINGFORD skipper Sam Kirnon believes his side's first victory of the season over Colchester will be the turning point in their campaign.

The Forestsiders' dramatic one-wicket win has put them in touch with the rest of the division - they are now just two points behind second-bottom Hainault and Clayhall.

Incidentally, Kirnon's men travel to their nearest rivals this Saturday, and the captain is confident his side have turned the corner.

"The win (over Colchester) will trigger a few more good results," Kirnon stated boldly.

"If we stay disciplined with our batting and bowling then I'm sure we can win the game."

However, just as Chingford look to have got their season up and running, they have been dealt a major blow with the news that key player McPherson Meade will return to the Caribbean and will not feature for the side.

Meade did however leave a parting gift to his captain with a valuable half-century that helped guide the side to their target of 239.

And despite the narrow margin of victory, Kirnon insisted he was always confident of winning the match.

"We were always up with the rate and were going along at a run a ball," he added.

"At one stage we were 210-4 and then we lost four wickets very quickly. But we didn't panic and we pulled through."
