ROBBIE Keane admitted: 'I don't know why I missed', to West Ham boss Avram Grant following his howler against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

The Irishman fluffed a contender for miss of the season in the closing stages at Upton Park in attempting to get on the end of Freddie Piquionne's low cross, a goal that would have won the game for the Hammers had it been converted.

It is not the first poor miss from Keane in recent weeks, having also spurned excellent chances against Chelsea and Manchester City in the Irons' previous two games.

Despite costing his side three vital points in their battle against the drop, Grant claimed he did not blame Keane for the miss.

“He's not happy,” said Grant. “He came here to score. The last three games he had three big chances to score, but I cannot blame him that he doesn't work.

“He made a good move against Chelsea and a good move against City, a great move today to make the chances.

“I feel sorry for him, even though I don't want to feel sorry about any player, but he did everything good. But it doesn't count.

“He's not happy because he missed the chances.

“He said: "I wish I knew why I missed."

“He's a good lad. I don't have any intention to kill him.”

Thomas Hitzlsperger had spared West Ham's blushes with a fierce strike from the edge of the area to cancel out Jason Roberts' early opener.
