Junior Sport: Local school to play in prestigious international tournament

A SCHOOL from Woodford Green will have the chance to play at one of Europe’s most famous stadiums when they fly out to Spain to take part in the Valencia Cup.

St Aubyn’s School will take three under-11 teams to compete in the international seven-a-side tournament this week, which will feature teams from Italy and Holland, with the finalists getting the chance to play at La Liga outfit Valencia’s 55,000 capacity Mestalla Stadium.

The school have been supported by their local McDonald’s restaurant, who have provided the team with new kit and equipment.

Meanwhile, Colebrook Royals U11s are Echo League Division C Cup champions after beating Harold Hill 3-1 in the final at Aveley FC. A brace of goals from Finn and another from Charlie secured the win.

Waltham Forest U12s made it through to the final of the Essex Schools District tournament with a superb 5-2 win over Harlow & West Essex. A first-half hat-trick from Godwin Agbotro, a fine solo effort from Mohammed Ali and a Theon Lutchmadoo strike did the damage. The team will face Chelmsford & Mid Essex in the final.

Elsewhere, Ryan B were crowned Echo League U12 D Division Cup champions as they edged a nail-biting encounter with Upminster Park Rovers, 2-1. Goals from Moulding and George won the title for the local side.

Snaresbrook U21s thumped Barn Sports 7-1 at the weekend. Two goals apiece for Brandon Knight and Matt Shrubsole were added to by strikes from Jehmeil Lemonius, Joshua Wallbank and Elliot Boakye.

On the rugby field, Woodford U15s defeated Colchester 39-19, with tries from Cameron Dutch, Will Cooper-Rendu (2), Ashley Somers (3) and Chelsey Fagan. The B team also enjoyed a 29-19 win over Burnham.

Meanwhile, two young girls ran 30 laps of their road to raise money for Sport Relief. Eleven-year-old Anna Pomfrett and Ella Waterfield, nine, took on the challenge at The Summit in Loughton to raise £177.
