Leyton Orient boss Russell Slade admitted his side produced a professional display after a 5-2 home win against Southport in the FA Cup first round.

A brace from Shaun Batt and goals from David Mooney, Lloyd James and Dean Cox booked their place in tomorrow's draw.

Slade said: "We just needed to be better without the ball [in the second half]. It's important in these games not to take liberties and be aggressive and ruthless and do it the right way. We showed enough professionalism to make sure we went through comfortably."

The O's led 2-0 after just nine minutes but an untidy spell saw Southport pull one back. Orient were relieved to see substitute James score his first goal deep into injury time which gave them a fortunate 3-1 lead at the break.

Slade said: "Well certainly we looked a capable force going forward. I don't think in parts we were as good when we lost the ball today but the important thing was to get the job done which we did."

Reflecting on James' goal, Slade admitted: "It was the perfect time and his first one in open play. He scored in the penalty shootout [against Coventry City] but that's his first one for the club so he will be delighted and it was a sweet one at that."
