Leyton Orient boss Russell Slade insists automatic promotion is not out of the question despite dropping further behind Wolves and Brentford in League 1.

The O's could only manage a 1-1 draw at Walsall while their rivals both won which leaves Orient four points off second having played more games.

Slade said: "It's not out of the question no. I bagged it as three big games, this one and our two home matches against Oldham and Bradford. I think that's got to be our focus and then we can see where we are from there.

"We certainly need two big efforts on Tuesday and Saturday at home to see if we can take maximum points."

Orient fell behind at Walsall to Paul Downing's goal and the manager admits he was unhappy with their performance for most of the first half.

Slade said: "Results are only just filtering through to me but we can only do our best. I was disappointed with the first half particularly the opening 25 minutes. I thought we came into it in the last ten minutes of the first period but Walsall certainly deserved to be in front.

"In the second half it was a different kettle of fish. I thought there was much more intensity and we had more possession. Everything was so much better in the second period. We managed to get ourselves a goal and we were looking for victory.

"I don't know why we are starting slowly in games lately. But it was always going to be hard when they scored first. They haven't lost a game when they've gone in front and for us to come back and look the side most likely to get a winner was encouraging."
