Wolves’ championship-winning boss Kenny Jackett believes Russell Slade has been the best manager in League 1 by “an absolute mile” this season.

The O’s pushed Wanderers all the way and were extremely unlucky to lose 3-1 in the televised Easter Monday clash, which helped confirm the visitors as champions.

But Jackett has singled out Slade as the manager of the year and thinks they have every chance of capping their exceptional season with promotion via the play-offs.

Jackett said: “I think Russell Slade has been the stand out manager in the division this year by an absolute mile.

“But you’re looking in the play-offs and it obviously goes from a league competition to a cup competition and there are some good sides in there if you’re looking at Preston and Rotherham while Peterborough have the experience with Darren Ferguson in there.

“But Orient are very capable. I think I’ve read that Russell wants to keep his best players fit and attack it with his best team. If he does that then I’m sure he has a real good chance.”

Wolves raced into a 2-0 lead at Brisbane Road but the O’s dominated much of the rest of the match.

The Wolves boss believes clinical finishing was the difference between the sides as Wolves claimed their 30th league win this season.

Jackett said: “It was harsh on Leyton Orient. I felt we did well up until the point where we got 2-0 up and looked in control. From there it was a very difficult afternoon for us.

“You can see how nervous the players were because it was a big step to win and around the country with the Norwich v Liverpool and Man City v Sunderland games recently, you can see it’s not as easy to see those games out.

“Orient threw everything at us and had nothing to lose but we did very well to come through it. Although I don’t think it was our best performance, it was one full of character and in the end we got three very good goals as well. It was clinical finishing.”
