Leyton Orient manager Russell Slade has been told by sporting director Mauro Milanese he has one game to "sort it out" or he will be sacked by owner Francesco Becchetti.

The 53-year-old revealed after this afternoon's defeat to Colchester United he had been informed by sporting director Milanese he will be sacked by Becchetti if the O's do not get a satisfactory result at Notts County on Tuesday.

Speaking after the O’s 2-0 loss against the previously winless U’s at Brisbane Road, Slade said had one match to save his job.

“The president has been honest enough, via Mauro Milanese, to tell me that I have got – we have got – one game to sort it out,” revealed Slade. “So hopefully we get a response on Tuesday.”

Asked to confirm whether the ultimatum related directly to his future at Brisbane Road, Slade said: “Yes, in terms of my future. Obviously it is not a great result for the football club and these things can happen but obviously the president will want better than that and of course we all want better than that.

“We have to look at the bigger picture – not just the short-term picture but the situation is we need to get a win on Tuesday or that will be curtains.”

He continued: “That is life; that can be football. Unfortunately it can be a cruel world but look, we have got a lot of work to do between now and Tuesday. I think that has to be the focus now.

“And in short, because I love this football club, the fans have been magnificent and we just need to get back on track. I hope everybody pulls together and we can get a positive result on Tuesday.”

Goals from Sanchez Watt and Freddie Sears extended Orient's winless run at home to three league games and they are one of only six sides yet to win at home in the division.

Defeat to Tony Humes’ side – who were down to ten men for more than 45 minutes following Magnus Okuonghae’s dismissal – leaves Orient just a place and a point above the relegation zone, less than four months after defeat in the League 1 play-off final to Rotherham United.

It has been a stuttering start to the new campaign for the new-look Orient, who have picked up just one win from six – a start contrast to last season’s exquisite 12-match unbeaten beginning to the season.

Slade, who was appointed as Orient manager on April 5 2010, has overseen 239 games as O’s manager, winning 102, drawing 61 and losing 76.
