Leyton Orient manager Russell Slade believes Championship side Cardiff City have made an enquiry for his services but is unsure as to the outcome.

The 53-year-old was given one match to “sort it out” after last Saturday’s 1-0 loss at home to Colchester United but, after drawing 1-1 at Notts County on Tuesday, confirmed he had been allowed to remain as O’s boss.

Following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s departure from Cardiff City on Thursday, Slade has been installed as the bookmaker’s favourite to replace the Norwegian – despite his job being under threat at Brisbane Road after an indifferent start to the League 1 season.

Asked after Orient’s 2-1 win over Scunthorpe United this afternoon whether or not there had been any contact between the two clubs, Slade admitted he thought there had been.

“Communication, I think they may have requested permission to talk to me but I am uncertain,” revealed Slade. “I am a little bit in the dark; I have to say, as to the response to that situation at the minute."

He added: “It is nice to be associated with such a big club like that and it is a huge club. I am very proud of the fact that they have seen the good work we have done at the football club."

Solskjaer, who had previously managed Molde and Manchester United's reserves, left the Cardiff City Stadium on Thursday and Slade is now the 7/5 favourite for the post.

Bluebirds owner Vincent Tan has proven to be a controversial figure since buying the Welsh side in May 2010, overseeing promotion to and relegation from the Premier League, as well as changing the colour of the club's kit from blue to red.

Addressing the issue of support from club owners, Slade said pointedly: “I had a very good relationship but I am sure that if I am to stay at the football club things will improve, there is no doubt about that.

“You have to have a game plan going forward and you have to work together – that is all part and parcel of it.”

Slade reiterated his continued committment to Leyton Orient in face of interest from the Championship side.

He said: "I have been very happy here since April 2010. I have always given my best for this football club and I expect my players to always give their best; whether it is my first game or my last game."
