Leyton Orient's miserable winless run at home continued as Kevin Nugent's first match in charge following Russell Slade's exit resulted in a 3-2 defeat to ten man Rochdale.

The O's got off to the worst possible start when Matthew Done picked his spot and fired past Gary Woods in the fourth minute. But it did not take long for Orient to equalise as Jobi McAnuff hit a superb strike from the edge of the area.

The hosts were awarded a penalty when Ashley Eastham was sent off for a foul which actually took place outside the area. But Chris Dagnall's effort was kept out by Conrad Logan.

However Orient took advantage of the extra man as Frenchman Romain Vincelot headed home to give them a lead at the break.

Rochdale made it 2-2 in the second half when Peter Vincenti scored from close range and incredibly the visitors snatched the lead after 66 minutes when Done netted his second of the game to clinch an unlikely win.

Caretaker manager Nugent dropped captain Nathan Clarke in his first game in charge following the resignation of Slade. Scott Cuthbert took the captaincy with Shane Lowry coming in.

Dean Cox, Darius Henderson and Dagnall all came in for Bradley Pritchard, David Mooney and Jay Simpson.

The hosts got off to a bad start when Done picked up the ball and hit a well struck shot into the corner of the net.

It could have easily been 2-0 to the visitors when Ian Henderson was put through on goal but his effort flew inches past the post.

But the O's netted an equaliser in the 13th minute when McAnuff controlled the ball and struck a stunning half-volley past Logan.

Orient were forced into an early change when Lloyd James suffered an injury and was stretchered off as Pritchard came on.

The hosts were awarded a penalty after half an hour, when Eastham brought down Henderson, although replays showed it was outside the area, and the defender was sent off. But Dagnall's spot-kick was saved by Logan.

The visitors were penalised for a pass back on the six-yard line but Orient could not take advantage as a quick free-kick resulted in Dagnall's shot being saved.

Orient grabbed the lead shortly before the break when Henderson flicked the ball on and Vincelot nodded it on before neatly heading into the net.

Rochdale netted an equaliser after 48 minutes when Jack O'Connell's shot was parried by Woods but Vincenti tucked away the rebound effort.

The hosts went close through Cox but the winger's fierce 25-yard strike flew just past Logan's post. Orient kept the pressure on and Pritchard was denied when his strike was tipped over the bar.

But the O's were caught out when former skipper Stephen Dawson released Done and he drilled a shot into the corner of the net.

Orient quickly made their final two changes when Mooney and Shaun Batt were brought on for McAnuff and Henderson.

The O's nearly netted a third goal but Lowry's header was cleared off the line by Henderson.

Orient got increasingly ragged as the match went on and were unable to find an equaliser as their woes at Brisbane Road continued.
