Leyton Orient's woeful home form took a turn for the worse after their fourth consecutive defeat at Brisbane Road as Swindon Town claimed a 2-1 win.

Orient are in the middle of a crisis after the departure of Russell Slade and the uncertainy over the club's replacement. Kevin Nugent has been offered the head coach role but his latest spell as caretaker boss, with back-to-back home defeats, must be a cause for concern.

The O's were the better side early on but fell behind against the run of play when Michael Smith finished sharply with Swindon's first attack. Orient conceded again at the start of the second half when Nathan Byrne exposed some shoddy defending to clinch the points for the visitors despite a late consolation from Darius Henderson.

Nathan Clarke was recalled to skipper the O's with Elliot Omozusi dropping to the bench. Henderson was also left out with Jay Simpson handed a rare chance to impress in attack. Marvin Bartley started in midfield with Lloyd James ruled out for a significant period of time with a broken leg.

The O's had an early opportunity through Chris Dagnall as he broke away down the right wing but the striker blasted his effort high and wide of the target.

Orient were looking reasonably bright and very nearly opened the scoring when Dagnall teed up Dean Cox but his shot was headed off the line by Nathan Thompson.

Cox had another chance from distance but the winger's strike flew harmlessly over Wes Foderingham's bar.

Orient were looking lively and Jobi McAnuff almost hit the target but his powerful strike was deflected out for a corner.

Swindon punished the hosts as they pinched the lead with their first attack after 29 minutes when Smith picked up the ball and struck a fine shot into the top corner of the net.

The Orient players were left furious when an offside flag went up against Simpson despite the ball falling to him after a stray back pass from Swindon.

It got even worse for the hosts when they conceded a second just after the break. Smith set up Byrne and the defender calmly fired past Gary Woods from close range.

Nugent made an immediate change as he brought on Henderson up front in place of Dagnall.

Amari Bell almost made it 3-0 when he fired in a fierce strike for the Robins but Woods tipped his effort over the bar.

Shaun Batt was thrown on by Nugent in the final 20 minutes with the quiet Simpson withdrawn.

Substitute Batt almost had an instant impact but his low strike was blocked by Foderingham.

Orient pulled one back deep into injury time when Henderson headed home but it was too late as the hosts' woes continued.
