Ten man Leyton Orient lost their unbeaten away record after a 3-0 defeat at Port Vale this afternoon.

Darius Henderson’s first half dismissal for elbowing Richard Duffy proved costly for the O’s. Port Vale had to wait until the 63rd minute for Adam Yates to score before Ben Williamson quickly added a second to seal the victory. A desperate afternoon for Orient was rounded off when Nathan Clarke netted a late own goal.

The O’s made two changes to the side which won at Doncaster on Tuesday. Mathieu Baudry returned from suspension and slotted into midfield in place of the injured Jack Price.

Captain Clarke also came back into the team with Bradley Pritchard dropping to the bench. Dean Cox also made a welcome return after injury with the winger named on the bench.

Port Vale had the first chance of the game but Williamson’s header flew over Gary Woods’ bar. Michael O’Connor also fired in a fierce strike but his effort was charged down by a defender.

The hosts came close to the opener when Ryan McGivern’s shot was parried by Woods and Williamson’s follow up effort was cleared off the line by Clarke. Port Vale kept attacking and were unlucky to see Chris Lines’ shot hit the post.

Orient suffered a major setback after half an hour when Henderson was sent off for elbowing Richard Duffy.

Port Vale continued to dominate and went close again through Chris Birchall but his header went wide of the target.

The home side kept pushing for the opener and Orient were reliant on Jobi McAnuff to block a Jordan Slew effort and keep the game level.

Chris Dagnall had a rare opportunity for the visitors but the striker blasted his effort over the bar.

Port Vale put the ball in the net in injury time but Slew’s header was ruled out for offside.

The visitors had a decent spell of possession at the start of the second half and had a chance through Marvin Bartley but his shot flew well over the bar.

Port Vale should have taken the lead from their next attack but Birchall headed wide from close range. Williamson also had a header on goal but his effort lacked power and drifted past the post.

The hosts eventually got their breakthrough when Yates picked up the ball and curled a shot into the top corner of the net.

Orient immediately made a double change with Cox and Pritchard thrown on for Jay Simpson and McAnuff.

But Port Vale doubled their lead shortly afterwards when Williamson calmly fired past Woods.

Kevin Nugent made a final substitution as he brought on Shaun Batt for Dagnall in the hope of pulling one back.

But Orient's miserable afternoon was sealed when Clarke put the ball into his own net to make it 3-0 as the O's unbeaten away record was crushed.
