Leyton Orient boss Mauro Milanese admitted he felt sorry for his players after a late Coventry City equaliser denied them their first home win this season.

The O's looked poised to defeat Coventry 2-1 but an injury time goal for the visitors salvaged a 2-2 draw in Milanese's second game in charge.

Milanese said: "I feel sorry for the lads because they did everything. It was their third game this week but they didn't stop believing and trying.

"It was not easy because we have lost recent games at home and we were 1-0 down but I think we deserved more from the first half. But an accident happened for their first goal and we were losing.

"But in the second half we kept believing, scored the goal and then after the confidence went up, we played well and got the second goal."

The Italian added: "I think Coventry didn't create too many chances but it's a tough season and we were a bit unlucky at the end in injury time when we lost the chance to get three points to escape from the bottom.

"But I asked the lads to believe that it is the right way with their attitude and the team is alive so we just have to believe we can be a bit luckier than before."

The wait goes on for a first Orient win for Milanese, as well as a victory at Brisbane Road this campaign, but the new manager believes his side are within touching distance of a breakthrough.

He said: "We have never won at home this season but I think the supporters stayed with us and we cannot wait to get three points. We are very, very close and deserve the three points. It was just a few mistakes and a bit of bad luck that Coventry scored two goals.

"I want to say thank you to the supporters and to believe until the end as we did but an accident in injury time cost us three points."
