Elliot Omozusi has admitted the players are nervous playing at home and and believes this will be the case until Leyton Orient get off the mark at Brisbane Road.

The O’s are still searching for their first victory in front of their own fans this season after a late Coventry City equaliser denied them on Saturday. The Orient defender accepts the pressure is getting to the team but still cannot put his finger on the stark contrast in form between playing at home and away.

Omozusi said: “Of course we’re nervous because we know we haven’t won here so we’re doing something wrong. Whatever that is we’ve got to try and find out what it is and rectify it. Until we win we’re going to have that added pressure.”

The former Fulham defender added: “We’ve travelled really well this season and hopefully that will continue. I honestly don’t know why it's been so contrasting home and away. If I knew I’d probably go and tell the manager but I honestly don’t know. I don’t know why we haven’t been able to transfer that away record at home. But all we can do is work hard and hopefully it will turn.

“It could be down to how teams set up and it’s something we need to look at. It’s been going on way too long now but we need to concentrate on what we do and put it right. On the whole I didn’t think we got what we deserved.”

Orient were leading 2-1 heading into injury time on Saturday but Coventry snatched an equaliser which left the players dejected.

Omozusi said: “The boys are devastated and it’s an unhappy changing room because we worked so hard and got ourselves into a winning position and thought we had done it. But as we know and the manager says, until we’re in the shower talking it’s not over.”

He added: “That’s what it’s like being at the bottom. Those little things just don’t go for you but when you’re up at the top flying you tend to get little bits of luck like shots cleared off the line and Clarkey wouldn’t have slipped. That’s how it is at the bottom and we have to take extra care. We’re giving 90 odd per cent but we have to give 150 now that we’re at the bottom.”

Orient’s attention switches away from the lower reaches of the league to the FA Cup and then Northampton Town at home in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on Tuesday. Omozusi would rather be getting straight back into the league this weekend after their latest setback but insists the side will be refreshed for their two cup ties.

The 25-year-old said: “Personally it’s not a welcome break for me. I would prefer to get back into it but that’s how it goes. We will take every game as it comes and we have no midweek game so it’s a chance to recharge our batteries and go again on Saturday.”

Although the East Londoners sit just one place above the League One drop zone, Omozusi does not think the side can be considered in a relegation battle yet.

“I wouldn’t say it’s relegation fight,” he said. “We know every game whether you’re at the top or the bottom of the league is going to be tough. The table doesn’t lie though, and we are near the bottom so it’s up to us fight and turn things around.”
