Mauro Milanese has stated his ambition is to save Leyton Orient’s season and help take them out of trouble with the O’s only two points off the bottom of League One.

The new Orient boss was left frustrated after he was denied his first win in charge following a late Coventry City equaliser on Saturday. The result left his side only one place above the relegation zone and the Italian outlined his target to lift the team away from danger.

Milanese said: “Our ambition is to save the season because this year has been a bit unlucky and tough for us. We just lacked a bit of concentration and a mistake has cost us a lot. Apart from the mistake in injury time I thought we looked solid and organised. We tried to play a bit on the floor and asked them not to just play long balls.”

The Italian added: “I think Coventry didn’t create too many chances but it’s a tough season and we were a bit unlucky at the end in injury time when we lost the chance to get three points to escape from the bottom.

“But I asked the lads to believe that it is the right way with their attitude and the team is alive so we just have to believe we can be a bit luckier than before.

“I feel sorry for the lads because they did everything. It was their third game this week but they didn’t stop believing and trying.”

One of the most encouraging aspects of the draw was the atmosphere at Brisbane Road and Milanese believes this support will provide a lift to his squad.

The former Queens Park Rangers defender said: “I think it was the best atmosphere of the season at home. It’s important that the fans stay behind us and the players can feel their support and hopefully it will push them on to achieve more this season.”
