Leyton Orient manager Mauro Milanese expects his side to keep improving after they finally claimed their first home win of the season.

The O's defeated Northampton Town 2-0 in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy area quarter-final as the Italian secured his first victory since taking charge last month.

Milanese said: "I'm happy for all the players and the supporters that stayed very close to us always. I think it will make us more confident at home to get three points and we can prepare much better for the league games against Gillingham and Crewe. I think we are going in the right direction.

"I think you're starting to see we are better on the pitch. But of course we need to practice and practice. Maybe with three games a week it's not helping us to do as much but I think they're understanding and getting better and better."

He added: "We are happy because I think we deserved this earlier on in the season. Some times we were 11 against ten men under Russell Slade and Kevin Nugent.

"One was 0-0 and the other we were 2-1 up and we didn't get one point so I think finally we've broken this mysterious run at home and we're happy but we're really concentrating on the league now."

Jay Simpson was one of the star performers and scored the opening goal. The striker was taken off after picking up a leg injury but Milanese expects him to be available for Saturday's trip to Gillingham in League One.

The O's boss said: "I think he injured it during the goal when they kicked his leg and now it's hurting him but I think he should be available for Saturday."
