A second-half saved penalty from Sam Sargeant secured a 2-1 win for Leyton Orient’s Under-18s at Dagenham & Redbridge.

The young O’s started brightly. Josh Koroma went close early on with an effort which went narrowly over before Victor Adeboyejo fired a curled shot against the crossbar. Sam Alderson was only able to head the rebound over.

Orient were unable to make the most of their early pressure and went behind in the 24th minute through Jordi Jones.

He cut in from the left and fired towards goal. His effort wasn’t going to trouble Sargeant but the ball took a deflection off Ayo Olukoga and ended in the net.

The O’s quickly responded and four minutes later earned a penalty when Freddy Moncur was brought down in the area.

The Orient captain decided to take the spot-kick and comfortably converted to level the contest.

Adeboyejo went close twice before the end of the half but the game was level at the interval.

The visitors created several opportunities after the break and they went in front in the 69th minute.

Moncur and Koroma combined before the skipper clipped a cross towards Adeboyejo. The striker powerfully headed goalwards but his effort hit the bar. The rebound dropped to Koroma, who netted his first goal of the campaign.

However, 60 seconds later, the Daggers were awarded a spot-kick. Michael Clark challenged Jordy Mongoy and, despite appearing to win the ball, a penalty was awarded.

Mongoy stepped up but his effort from 12 yards was saved by Sargeant, who also did excellently to block the rebound and seal victory for O’s.
