Chief executive Alessandro Angelieri insists owner Francesco Becchetti is not going to walk away from the club and is determined to succeed at Leyton Orient.

Italian Becchetti bought the club last summer in a move which sparked optimism at Brisbane Road. But the first season has not gone smoothly with the club struggling to avoid relegation to League Two.

Some fans are concerned the new owner could decide to walk away from the O’s prematurely and leave the club in turmoil but the chief executive insists there is no danger of this happening.

Angelieri said: “The kind of person that the president is, when he’s got a goal in his head he wants to finish it and then move on. His goal is to get into the Championship and get bigger. He’s not going to leave until he’s reached that point.

“Obviously it’s a business because he’s invested millions. We have to arrive at the goal and this requires time and money. There is no time deadline. It could take one, two, three or four years. Obviously we have to work to go into the Championship and if it’s not this season then next year.”

The chief executive added: “In the market of July we have to work harder to find other good players but in one or two years maximum we have to go into the Championship. When you win you are happy and you invest more money. There is no deadline to the project. It’s a medium to long term project.”
