Leyton Orient boss Fabio Liverani congratulated his players after their 1-0 defeat to Notts County and still believes his team can avoid relegation.

The O's remain bottom of League One after losing at home and are now six points off safety and still without a win in 2015.

But the Italian, speaking via a translator, said: "The only way we can get out of this situation is to just work harder and harder. I believe in the squad and believe we can get out of this situation. This was a very different game from the Scunthorpe match.

“I think we played reasonably well and created chances but just couldn’t manage to score. But I have nothing to say against the players. I congratulated them in the changing room."

Liverani was booed by the home fans after taking off Chris Dagnall in the second half as supporters derided his decision.

He said: "I always respect the fans’ reaction. But my personal decision in that particular moment in the game was that Dagnall was tired and I thought Shaun Batt could give something more than him at that time."

Liverani launched a scathing attack on his players after the 4-1 defeat to Scunthorpe United. But he had no complaints with his team following their latest setback.

He said: “It’s not my intention to always find someone to blame. I think today it was a game where we conceded a couple of chances to them at the beginning of the game.

"One they missed and the other they scored but to be honest they are the only two things we didn’t do right."
