The joy of Saturday’s victory at Chesterfield was quickly forgotten as Leyton Orient stayed in the relegation zone after a 2-0 home defeat to Bradford this evening.

Despite a promising start from the O’s, Bradford took the lead when James Hanson scored a spectacular half-volley. It got even worse when the visitors made it 2-0 after Hanson headed in his second of the game.

Orient struggled to test visiting keeper Jordan Pickford and their miserable home record, which is the worst in the top four divisions, continued to leave them second bottom in League One.

The O’s made one change from the team which snatched victory at Chesterfield on Saturday. Marvin Bartley made his first start since November in midfield with Josh Wright dropping to the bench.

The hosts had the first effort on goal but Dean Cox’s volley was straight into the arms of goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Orient came so close to opening the scoring when Romain Vincelot struck the crossbar and David Mooney’s follow up effort was deflected out for a corner.

But the Bantams opened the scoring against the run of play after 21 minutes when Hanson controlled the ball and sent a stunning half-volley from outside the area past Alex Cisak.

Vincelot had the chance for a quick response but his header was straight at Pickford.

Orient conceded a second goal in the 32nd minute when Felipe Morais’ free-kick was headed home easily by Hanson.

The hosts created an opportunity for Cox but the winger could only blast his shot well over the crossbar.

It was surprising to see the visitors make two changes at the break, including taking off the goalscorer, while Orient made no substitutions.

Cisak was called into action as he made a decent double save to keep out efforts from Francois Zoko and Billy Clarke.

The hosts made their first change as Ryan Hedges came on but the fans showed their disgust towards manager Fabio Liverani after Saturday’s hero Cox was taken off.

A second substitution quickly followed with Wright brought on in place of Bartley. Liverani then introduced Jobi McAnuff, in place of Bradley Pritchard, for his first appearance in 2015.

Bradford should have added a third goal when Andy Halliday cut inside the area but his low shot was pushed round the post by Cisak.

Chris Dagnall had a decent shooting position in the final ten minutes but the striker’s effort lacked power and was easily saved.

Shane Lowry fired in an ambitious long-range free-kick which forced Pickford into an acrobatic save.

Dagnall should have scored from close range but his strike was superbly blocked on the line by Morais.

It was another missed opportunity for the O's as the side fell to their fourth successive home defeat to leave them firmly in the relegation zone.
