Leyton Orient boosted their survival hopes after ending their four-match losing run at Brisbane Road with a 3-0 win over Oldham Athletic this afternoon.

Orient got off to the ideal start when Andrea Dossena marked his first start since the beginning of January with the opening goal. David Mooney doubled their lead from the penalty spot to put the O’s in control.

The visitors were awarded a penalty in the second half but Jonathan Forte’s effort was saved by Alex Cisak and the O’s added a late third goal through Jay Simpson as they claimed their first home win in 2015.

Jobi McAnuff made his first start of the year while winger Ryan Hedges was given his full home debut with Dean Cox on the bench and Bradley Pritchard left out.

Mathieu Baudry and Dossena came into the defence with Nathan Clarke on the bench and Elliot Omozusi out injured. Josh Wright also started ahead of Marvin Bartley.

Romain Vincelot took over the captaincy while Simpson and Gianvito Plasmati were fit to start on the bench after injury layoffs.

The hosts got off to a dream start as they opened the scoring after just three minutes when Hedges and McAnuff combined to release Dossena and the Italian hit his low strike into the corner of the net.

Orient were awarded a penalty midway through the half when the lively McAnuff was brought down by Liam Kelly. Mooney sent the keeper the wrong way to extend the O’s lead.

The Latics almost responded immediately through Joseph Mills but his free-kick was tipped over the bar by keeper Cisak.

Oldham had a decent opportunity before the break but Rhys Turner wasted the chance as he blasted high and wide of the target.

Hedges had an chance, early on in the second half, from the edge of the area but the Swansea youngster fired his shot well over the bar.

Carl Winchester struck a long-range effort for the visitors but it sailed harmlessly over.

McAnuff should have done better after Wright released him but the midfielder ‘s low shot drifted wide of the target.

It was his last contribution of the match as McAnuff was applauded off after being replaced by Cox.

Oldham were awarded a penalty after Rhys Murphy was fouled in the area. Forte’s spot kick was saved by Cisak and Kelly’s follow up struck the crossbar as Orient escaped.

Fabio Liverani made a second substitution in the final 20 minutes with midfielder Bartley brought on in place of Mooney.

Simpson also got a late run-out after being absent since December through injury as the striker replaced the tiring Hedges.

The O's were relatively comfortable during the closing minutes and put the gloss on the victory with an injury time finish from Simpson as Liverani's side claimed a vital three points to keep within touching distance of the sides above the League One relegation zone.
