Alex Cisak has agreed a loan extension until the end of the season but the goalkeeper believes the O’s need to have enough points in the bag to secure safety before a difficult run of fixtures in the last fortnight.

The Burnley shot stopper finalised a deal on Monday to remain at Brisbane Road until the end of the campaign. Cisak has played seven matches during an initial one-month loan and is looking to help ensure Orient avoid relegation.

But a potentially punishing last four fixtures, including games against promotion chasers MK Dons, Sheffield United and Swindon Town, means the O’s will be desperate to have a cushion heading into the end of April.

Cisak said: “I’m happy that I can get more games under my belt and just want to help the club stay up and avoid relegation.

“So far I’ve enjoyed my time here and we just need to get some more wins because I think 50 points is the target we’re looking at as the amount you normally need. We want to get to that as soon as possible because we don’t want to go into the last few games still needing wins to stay up.”

Orient’s next match is at home to fellow relegation candidates Yeovil this Saturday and it is a match neither side can afford to slip up in.

The keeper said: “It’s basically a cup final for us because if we win then it puts some distance between the sides. We don’t want to go into the last few games needing wins because it’s a very difficult end to the season against some tough sides. We’ve looked at our fixtures and there are about seven or eight games that are winnable.

“This week we have three games in seven days which are massive for us. We need to beat Yeovil and Crawley and hopefully get a positive result against Barnsley as well. It is vital that we win those matches to bring us well clear of the bottom four because we are still about 15 points off our target.”

Cisak suffered the misfortune of being beaten by a cross on Saturday as Jon Taylor’s delivery caught the wind and was blown into the corner of the net for Peterborough United’s winner.

The keeper said: “It was a bizarre goal. The ball looked like it was going three yards over the bar but the wind just caught it and went into the corner. It’s the most bizarre goal I’ve conceded and there wasn’t really anything I could do about it. It was just one of those things that you have just have to move on from.”

Cisak has provided a more assured presence in the Orient goal since his arrival and the defence appear to have more confidence playing in front of him. The 25-year-old Polish-born Australian is targeting more clean sheets over the last two months of the season.

He said: “I’m generally pretty happy with my form since coming here. I’ve kept two clean sheets but we just need to keep some more.

“It’s not like I’ve been peppered that much because the team have defended reasonably well. Hopefully the luck changes (Saturday’s goal) and we keep defending well and limiting chances for the other teams.”

Cisak is not the only player to arrive from Turf Moor after defender Luke O’Neill joined last month. The 23-year-old right-back has started all three matches since signing on loan until the end of the campaign and has arguably been helped by working with a familiar face.

“I had been here three or four weeks before him so it’s probably made it a bit easier for him since he arrived,” said Cisak. “He is a good player and helps get forward as an attacking right back. He’s done well in the games he’s played so far and will certainly help us stay up.”
