Jobi McAnuff has admitted he has not lived up to expectations and produced anywhere near what he is capable of this season but hopes the fans are starting to see why the club signed him.

The experienced midfielder was expected to be one of the stars of the team after dropping down from the Championship with Reading to join Orient last summer.

But the Jamaican international has failed to sparkle for most of the campaign while the side have been embroiled in a relegation battle after coming so close to promotion last May.

McAnuff gave an honest account of his form this season, following Saturday's win over Yeovil, and was the first to admit he has not produced the level he hoped.

The 33-year-old said: "I think from a football point of view it's been difficult because results obviously haven't gone the way we wanted. From my perspective, it's probably affected my game a little bit and I haven't produced anywhere near what I feel I'm capable of. It's always frustrating going home on a Saturday night when you haven't played anywhere near what you are capable of.

"But I think the key for us is it's been the same for pretty much everybody. I don't think there's many people that can say they've had a great season personally. Now I think it's just about digging through it and we've got a chance with the games coming up to get something out of the season and make sure we stay up.

"Then we can probably have a look back at things and see why things didn't quite go so well. But from our point of view it's just about the positives now. We've had a great win and we just have to go on and play as well as we can between now and the end of the season."

There has been a significant improvement in McAnuff's form in recent weeks and he was one of the best performers during the O's one-sided win over the Glovers.

When asked if the supporters are starting to see the ability which encouraged Orient to sign him, he replied: "I'd like to think so. It's not something you get too bothered with. I'm a professional player and I have to go and do my best whatever the circumstances.

"It's nice they're starting to see a bit more from me because that expectation when I came to the club was a fair one. I back myself to perform well at this level and haven't done as well as I should have done this year. I'll be the first to admit that. From my point of view, hopefully I've given them something to look forward to for the end of the season."

Orient's recent form recently can probably be partly attributed to the lengthy injury list clearing up. McAnuff was sidelined himself at the beginning of 2015 and the versatile midfielder believes there is now real competition to get into the team.

McAnuff said: "Everyone's coming back fitness wise now and the manager's biggest problem is trying to get a team out there without disappointing too many players because everyone's champing at the bit to be out there and playing well. It's up to us as players to give him (Fabio Liverani) that headache and his job to pick the team to get the result which he did today."

One of the players to return from injury recently is Darius Henderson and the striker helped set up McAnuff for the third goal on Saturday.

"He (Henderson) gives us a different option," McAnuff said. "He does a lot of work unnoticed and sometimes drags two or three people around the ball and creates space for other players. I thought he was a real handful with Dags (Chris Dagnall) as usual and Hendo was unlucky not to get a goal but had a big hand in the performance today."

The O's have brought some more teams into the relegation battle with their recent wins and there is a feeling it could take a higher number of points than typically required to avoid the drop this season.

McAnuff said: "It looks like this year it might be a few more than 50 points the way teams are going. We've got 11 left and we want to win as many as we can out of that. With the teams we've got coming up we'd back ourselves to do it.

He added: "We've got a lot of games against teams in and around us to come and if we take care of business in those games we'll be ok as long as we take a few points in the other games along the way.

"Saturday's win was a big statement although every time we win the others seem to. We're getting to that next little level above us where a few teams are getting sucked in. We've just got to take care of our business. If we do that we'll be fine."
