Leyton Orient 1
Brighton 4
(League One)

ORIENT'S week from hell continued with a second successive drubbing, this time at the hands of Brighton, writes Peter King.

A distinct lack of goalmouth action in the first half at a rain swept Brisbane Road, saw the O's only muster a couple of half chances early on.

First James Walker's attempted over-head kick easily cleared Michel Kuipers bar on 20 minutes. Then three minutes later Gary Alexander broke clear down the right and found the side netting when really he should have cut it back for a better placed Walker.

Then with their first real chance of the half Brighton took the lead on 39 minutes. Phil Mulryne's attempted clearance fell to Bas Savage on the right and his cross was thumped home at the back post by former O's loanee Dean Hammond.

A minute before the break Walker played in Tudor on the right and he cut in and unleashed a low shot that Kuipers was easily down to.

The visitors doubled their lead 12 minutes after the restart when Dean Cox broke down the right and sent over a low cross that was drilled home by Savage.

Brighton grabbed a third on 67 when Savage knocked back Cox's cross for Joe Gatting to poke home from close range.

Walker then just failed to turn in Tudor's cross on 82 minutes.

Sub Jason Demetriou scored his first ever career goal when he headed in Tudor's free kick three minutes from time.

But the visitors still had the last word when Cox broke free down the right and fired a fourth past Garner to complete a miserable night all round in east London.

Dejected boss Martin Ling said: "The last two games have not been good enough, and the nine goals against means we have conceded the most in the division.

"People are going to start saying that after a 5-0 and a 4-1 that we are dead in the water.

"But when our backs are against the wall, we always come out fighting."

Leyton Orient: Garner, Lockwood, Mackie, Saah, Thelwell, Tudor, Mulryne (Demetriou 61), Chambers, Corden (Duncan 73), Walker, Alexander (Barnard 69). Subs not used: Morris (GK), Palmer.
