Whilst Saturday’s result wasn’t quite what we wanted, there were certainly plenty of positives to take.

Once again we created several excellent chances and on another day, with a bit of composure, we could have won the game comfortably. The defence also looked a lot stronger than it has done in recent weeks, admittedly against one of the division’s weakest sides.

Fabio Liverani has said how we’ve been unlucky in recent weeks in front of goal, but it is something that seems to have been a recurring theme this season. With the calibre of strikers in the side, it’s been disappointing that none of them have been prolific in front of goal this season.

Injuries have obviously played a part in that, but the quality of the service into them has been a critical factor. Jobi McAnuff and Dean Cox have both got the quality to unlock any defence at this level but the loss of form for both at times this season has had a large impact, as has the absence of a ball playing midfielder to step into Lloyd James' position when he was out the side.

Chris Dagnall has been our most consistent striker this season but for all his efforts, he has lacked some composure in front of goal in recent weeks and seems to be snatching at his chances.

I believe our strongest strike pair would be Darius Henderson and Jay Simpson but their lack of fitness throughout this season has been very frustrating and I can’t think of many occasions where they have both been on the pitch at the same time. They’ve both played at a higher level and come with a great pedigree but for them to have missed so much of the season has been disappointing.

What has noticeably improved over the last few weeks has been the attitude of the squad. For so long earlier in the season, when we fell behind there was a general feeling that that was it as we would limp to another demoralising defeat.

Over the last few weeks we’ve started grinding results out when we’ve not been playing at our best, the Coventry win sticks out in particular. This new found spirit has come just in time and it’s just a shame it didn’t happen earlier in the season.

At this late stage of the campaign, it is all about the results and with the O's now unbeaten in four, hopefully we can carry this into the final stretch of the season. The last four games are all difficult on paper, but at this late stage with everything to play for at both ends of the table who knows what might happen?

I would prefer to play teams higher up the table at the end of the season rather than the teams around at the bottom. This might sound a little strange, but with teams keeping half an eye on the play-offs it might be easier to sneak a result against those sides rather than battle it out against a rival who is also fighting for their League One status.

A lot has been said about Liverani and some of his ways of working. The squad rotation policy that he employs for me is quite difficult to understand, particularly the way he rotates the back four. By changing it around each week, it can’t be easy for the defence to settle.

Last season was so successful because the side was largely the same week after week and the players knew inside out how each other worked. By changing it around so drastically so often, it can surely only have a detrimental effect on the side.

I also can’t understand why it’s taking so long for his English to get up to scratch. I’m no linguistic expert but when I compare it back to when Fabio Capello took over the England helm it seems to be taking an age for him to grasp even the basics. It’s clear that the players struggle to understand his instructions on the pitch.

With time this will improve, and I do hope Liverani is given time as I feel we’ve been playing a lot better style of football in the last couple months and if he’s given the time it will be interesting to see where he brings new faces in. I believe we’ve lacked a winger this season, as evidenced by the impact Ryan Hedges has had on the side and I hope we can bring him in permanently in the summer.
