Leyton Orient captain Nathan Clarke insists Fabio Liverani remains the right man for the job despite the club's relegation from League One.

The O's suffered demotion yesterday after finishing second bottom of the table and fans have called for the sacking of Italian boss Liverani.

But Clarke claims the players are behind him and thinks he deserves the chance to try to bring the club back up next season.

The defender said: "I think he's the right man. He's enthusiastic about being here and desperate to push the players on and improve them so why not?"

Orient were backed by more than 1,000 fans at Swindon as they watched their team squander a 2-0 lead in their 2-2 draw and end a miserable campaign with relegation. Clarke is desperate to make amends and grateful for their backing despite a dismal year.

Clarke said: "It's been a massive disappointment throughout and we're thankful for their support throughout the season. It's been fantastic and they've stuck with us through what's been a shocking season. We can only thank them again today for turning out in their numbers.

"They were with us right to the end even when they possibly knew results weren't going our way. We have to look forward to a better season and we want them right behind us."
