Out-of-contract defender Elliot Omozusi has become the latest player to leave Leyton Orient after signing for Cambridge United on a two-year deal.

The 26-year-old, who made 149 first-team appearances for the O's across two stints, was out of contract at Brisbane Road and has elected to join League Two rivals Cambridge.

Speaking to the club's website, the Hackey-born full-back explained he had been in discussions with the U's for a while.

He said: “I’m over the moon and glad to have got the deal done because I have been in discussions with the club since the end of the season, with the view of a move this summer.

“I am looking forward to getting out there and just playing football for this club. We all hope for a strong season, but I’m sure quietly we will believe that there is a good chance to get promoted.

“Going into next year, the club has got a very good basis having signed some top quality players, so it’s onwards and upwards.”

Omozusi initially joined Orient from Fulham in June 2010 and established himself as a regular at Brisbane Road, making 50 league outings before his contract was terminated by the club in November 2011 after being sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison for intimidating a witness in a murder trial.

However, upon his release he returned to E10 and re-joined the O's in January 2013, stating at the time: "I'm grateful to Leyton Orient for this opportunity given to me.

"I want to make the most of this second chance and I'm looking forward to helping the team over the rest of the season."

After initially re-joining until the end of campaign, Omozusi signed a one-year extension in the summer of 2013 before prolonging his stay by another year last summer.
