Former Leyton Orient striker Shaun Batt has joined Barnet on a two-year deal and will be in line for a quick return to Brisbane Road.

The two sides meet on the opening day of the League Two season after the Bees were promoted and the O's relegated.

Batt, 28, becomes the second player to make the switch from Orient to The Hive this summer after veteran striker Kevin Lisbie earlier in the summer. His older brother, Damian, was part of the last Barnet side to win promotion ten years ago.

The Harlow-born forward can play on the right flank or up front but made just 16 League One appearances last term with only five of those starts.

He told the club website: “I’m really happy to have signed. It is a good club with great facilities and I am looking forward to getting some stability back in my career.

“In terms of circumstances it is a great club for me and I knew that it is the right place for me to be.

“The guys had a great year last year and I am more than happy to play a part in what will hopefully be another successful season.”

And head coach Martin Allen revealed former teammate Lisbie had given the forward his seal of approval. He explained: “I’m pleased that we have managed to get in another forward player and if he stays fit then we have got a match winner on our hands.

“When I asked Kevin Lisbie, he said: ‘Get him, he will be a great player for us.’

“No doubt it will take a bit of time for him to achieve the supreme fitness levels of our players, and Shaun will have to work extremely hard to get to our levels.”

Batt began his career with Stevenage but left in 2005 following loan spells with Arlesey Town and Cheshunt to join Dagenham and Redbridge.

Further spells in non-league football with Ilford, Leyton, East Thurrock United (twice) and St Albans City gave the 6ft 2in attacker a good grounding before a switch to Fisher Athletic in 2007.

It was Batt's time at Fisher which prompted Peterborough United to bring the rangy forward to London Road. His time with the Posh included 50 league appearances in the Championship and League One.

After two years with the Posh, Batt was on the move again and joined League One side Millwall, scoring three times in 17 outings as the Lions reached the second tier via the play-offs.

Batt's three-year stay with the south Londoners did not yield regular football, though, and after making just 14 league starts in three years, he joined Orient on loan in January 2013.

Two goals in seven league starts were a good introduction in E10 and the switch was made permanent in the summer.

Batt made 63 appearances in all competitions for the O's but the bulk of those came from the substitute's bench. Still he had an impact, netting ten goals whilst playing out wide more often than up front.
