Leyton Orient head coach Ian Hendon has confirmed Shane Lowry intends to leave the club this summer.
The former Millwall defender has one year left on his contract but has a release clause which was activated after the O's relegation.
Hendon, speaking after their 2-1 defeat to Braintree Town in their first friendly, said: "Shane's got a clause in his contract that if we got relegated he could leave on a free transfer. That was done before I came. Sadly I wasn't aware of that initally to be honest. His agent informed he would be leaving 100 per cent.
"On that basis there's no point Shane being out on the training ground because if he gets injured we've got an injured player for a year. Even though he's got a year left he's free to go.
"I'd like to keep him. He won't be going to Spain with us. If he gets sorted out he does. If he doesn't we'll have a chat when we get back. But we can't afford for him to be injured because he wants to find another club."
