Orient head coach Ian Hendon believes the club's training camp in Spain will prove beneficial during the season.

The O's played three matches and held training sessions in sweltering heat as they continue their build-up to the new campaign.

Hendon, whose side returned on Monday, said: "It was ridiculously hot out there and locals said it was about 10 degrees warmer than usual at this time of year. We trained early and late and made the most of our time there.

"We wanted to go away and really work hard on our fitness so to me the games were secondary. But it gave us a chance to look at different shapes and formations.

"It was a good week and the lads had a little initiation which everyone got involved in. The squad had a laugh and a joke and it was a good week. The set-up was spot on and first class so that was very good especially at League Two level."

Orient start the season next month at home to Barnet and Hendon insists this is his primary focus with just over two weeks before the big kick-off.

The O's boss said: “What matters is August 8. The squad have had a hard week’s work and the fitness work will stand us in good stead. Now it’s time to just sharpen things up before the start of the season.”

Orient's next friendly is at League One side Colchester United on Saturday.
