Head coach Ian Hendon described the atmosphere as "brilliant" after his first match in charge of Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road ended in a 2-0 win over Barnet.

The O's got their League Two campaign off to a promising start after seeing off the newly-promoted Bees in front of a bumper crowd of 6,151.

Hendon was given a rousing reception on the pitch before the game alongside owner Francesco Becchetti and he was quick to applaud the supporters for their backing.

The new Orient boss said: "I've been back a few times to watch a few games but the atmosphere here today was brilliant and the reception I got before the game was great. The players and the staff just want to go out and win games of football especially at home.

"It was great to see a good support today and just as good for us it was a good performance and a win. I hope everyone comes back next time we're here."

Orient had a few scares from Barnet in the first half before second-half goals from Paul McCallum and Jay Simpson earned the three points. Hendon was pleased his side were able to handle the threat of the visitors' physical and direct style.

Hendon said: "I'm just pleased that my players took on board what we've told them this week on how to deal with what's coming. We've done that fantastically well and kept a clean sheet as well."

One notable absentee from the squad was midfielder Jobi McAnuff but Hendon insists the Jamaican international is still part of his plans.

Hendon said: "Jobi's been away and not been any part of our pre-season through no fault of his own. We've had a group of players that have been away. We've been out to Spain for a week and had a whole pre-season together so I felt it right we stick with the group of players we've got there and go with what we had today.

"Who's to say any different? It was a good performance and I spoke to Jobi, he's fine and wished us all the best today. Jobi's still at the football club as are others that missed out today so he's no different to anybody else."
