Leyton Orient head coach Ian Hendon was pleased with his side's battling qualities after earning a 3-1 home win over Notts County this afternoon.

The O's failed to win during September but got October off to an ideal start after claiming the points to move up to third in League Two.

Hendon said: "Listen that was tough today. It wasn't an easy game at all. They were big and strong and made seven changes from their team on Tuesday evening so it just goes to show how big a squad they've got and what a good squad they've got.

"I thought our lads matched them physically today. We gave away a little bit in the height and size department but I was really pleased with how we battled today."

Orient dominated the first half but were then pegged back after conceding straight after the second period got underway.

Hendon said:  "We just went in at half time and said let's stay solid. We were 1-0 up and all the planning went to pot within a minute of the second half. We got caught out.

"The free-kick was taken quickly and Alan Smith, who's an intelligent footballer, played the ball in behind and they got in and scored through Jon Stead. It was a disappointing start to the second half but we regrouped.

"It was a bit bitty at times but as long as we're in games we keep creating chances. We have done in the previous four games and it was just a matter of time before we took them."

The highlight of the game was a stunning 30-yard strike from Sammy Moore which sealed the win and was the midfielder's second of the match.

Hendon said: "He hit one at Cambridge which got tipped over deep into injury time so Sammy's got that in the locker and let's hope he gets a few more."
