Leyton Orient produced a horror show after a dismal 1-0 defeat to Accrington Stanley this afternoon.

Accrington opened the scoring after 25 minutes when Josh Windass exposed the hosts’ defence and fired home.

The O’s struggled to create many chances to level the match and the fans reacted to a poor showing by signalling their discontent at the end of each half.

Ian Hendon picked the same side which won last week at Morecambe. Dean Cox was left out in the previous game but was brought back onto the bench in place of Blair Turgott.

The visitors created the first opportunity of the game when Piero Mingoia sent in a cross but Sean McConville’s half-volley from close range bounced just past Alex Cisak’s post.

Orient missed a golden opportunity to score when Connor Essam headed against the bar from Jack Payne’s cross. Ollie Palmer followed up but Accrington’s defenders managed to block the ball from crossing the line.

The O’s kept the pressure on and John Marquis’ thumping volley from Palmer’s knock down was pushed round the post by goalkeeper Jason Mooney.

Windass curled in a dangerous free-kick from the edge of the area but his strike crept narrowly over the crossbar.

Orient went close again from a cross by Marquis but Bradley Pritchard’s flicked header crept wide of the far post.

But Accrington struck the first blow of the match as Billy Kee released Windass and he tucked the ball into the net.

Hendon reacted quickly by bringing on Cox in place of Marquis in a move which appeared to be a tactical decision.

Cox almost set up an equaliser before the break but his cross just eluded the O’s attackers.

Sammy Moore then sent in a teasing low cross but somehow Palmer was unable to get on the end of the delivery.

Accrington almost doubled their lead in injury time when Windass’ shot was spilled by Cisak but Matty Crooks fired over from close range.

The hosts had a big chance at the start of the second half when Palmer was through on goal but he side-footed wide from close range.

The O’s had a corner but Essam failed to direct his header on target.

Stanley should have added the second goal on the break but Kee’s strike was pushed round the post by Cisak.

Orient made their second change when Lloyd James came on in place of Moore on the hour mark.

The hosts were struggling to break down their opponents and were in need of some inspiration.

Orient made a final substitution in the last 15 minutes with Scott Kashket thrown on in place of Essam.

The O’s failed to find the target when Palmer teed up Cox but the midfielder’s strike flew wide of Mooney’s post.

But the home onslaught failed to materialise and the home fans voiced their disapproval and booed the side off after a very poor display.
