Leyton Orient eased into the second round of the FA Cup after thrashing Staines Town 6-1 at Brisbane Road this afternoon.

Ian Hendon’s side only needed eight minutes to open the scoring through Ollie Palmer’s header. Orient added another two goals within the first 13 minutes as Dean Cox and Palmer found the net.

Staines pulled one back midway through the half when former Orient defender Darren Purse scored. But Cox curled a stunning free-kick into the corner to make it 4-1 to the O’s. Substitute John Marquis scored his first goal for the club late on before the final effort from Sean Clohessy put the gloss on a routine victory for the hosts.

The O’s made five changes from the side beaten by Accrington. Lloyd James replaced the suspended Bradley Pritchard and Cox returned ahead of Marquis.

Blair Turgott replaced Sammy Moore and Frazer Shaw started at left-back after the end of Adam Chicksen’s loan. Alan Dunne was brought in at centre-back after Connor Essam was ruled out with an ankle injury.

Orient got off to the ideal start after eight minutes when Palmer nodded home from close range after a cross from Shaw.

The hosts doubled their advantage after 12 minutes when Shaw set up Cox and he fired a low shot into the corner of the net.

Staines were all over the place and conceded a third goal almost immediately when Turgott’s shot was parried by Jack Turner and Palmer netted the rebound.

The visitors should have pulled one back but Ashley Lodge fired wide from close range after an enticing cross.

Staines got on the scoresheet when Alex Cisak’s punch fell to Purse and the defender lofted the ball into the empty net.

Orient netted their fourth goal of the game after 33 minutes when Cox struck a superb free-kick into the top corner.

Jay Simpson fired in a late effort in the first half but his shot was straight at Turner.

The O’s top scorer went close again but his powerful strike rose just over the visitors’ crossbar.

Palmer was searching for his hat-trick but the striker’s shot at the start of the second half was pushed round the post by Turner.

Simpson threatened again when released on goal but his shot was blocked by the visiting goalkeeper.

Orient were forced into a change when the injured Jack Payne was replaced by Freddy Moncur.

Hendon also introduced Scott Kashket shortly afterwards as a replacement for Simpson. This was quickly followed by Marquis as the forward replaced Palmer in the O's final substitution.

Jack Bennett fired in a long-range strike but Cisak was behind the effort and pushed it round the post.

Mitchal Gough almost grabbed a late second for Staines but his header hit the side netting.

Marquis almost got on the scoresheet but his low strike was saved by Turner.

But the striker got his first goal for the O's late on when he neatly tucked home their fifth of the tie before Clohessy scored with virtually the last kick to complete a comfortable win for the hosts.
