John Marquis insists he would stay in a hotel all season if it helped Leyton Orient win promotion.

The O's made the national headlines last week after their squad were forced to spend most of the week at the Marriott hotel in Waltham Abbey.

Owner Francesco Becchetti punished the team following last week's defeat at Hartlepool United but the side produced the response required after defeating York City on Saturday.

Marquis was adamant the move paid off with the players spending more time with each other in the build-up to their last home game.

The Millwall loanee said: "Obviously you can see it paid off with three points. One game doesn't make a season but as I say we're looking forward now and if we have to go into a hotel again for a few days it doesn't matter as long as we keep winning. I'll live in there until the end of the season if we get promoted so I'll do whatever."

The forward added: "It's just what was needed to be done. The players weren't happy with the results. The management weren't happy and obviously the people above weren't happy with results.

"If that means we've got to go into a hotel and it brings us all together and will get us good results then I'll stay in there until the end of the season."

Head coach Ian Hendon was surprised at the extent of the coverage and insists no-one would have taken any notice if the side had gone abroad.

He said: "I've got a good group of players in there. They're honest. Any mistakes that are made are honest mistakes.

"We had a couple last week and the result of that was to spend a week in a hotel. That's something that happens from time to time here."

When asked if he thought the club might decide to do a similar thing again in the future, Hendon replied: "Why not? If that's what it needs to get everybody together and spend more time together than why not?

"If we said we were going off to Spain or Tenerife for a week for warm weather training no-one would have batted an eyelid.

"The fact we were in Waltham Abbey in a hotel doing a similar thing with more time on the training ground I don't see what the fuss is about."
