New Leyton Orient player-manager Kevin Nolan believes he can break the mould and become the first coach to last more than seven months under Francesco Becchetti.

The O's owner appointed Nolan as his sixth manager since taking over the club in 2014 with Ian Hendon the longest serving head coach.

Hendon was dismissed last weekend after just seven months in charge but Nolan is confident he can see out his two and a half year contract.

The 33-year-old, who is hoping to add to the squad before the weekend, said: "I have got confidence in my own ability, I always have. This is a challenge and I love challenges as I said before. I truly believe that I can take this club forward and I wouldn't have taken this job if I didn’t think that.

"I am a driven lad and I think that is what Francesco has seen in me. He got to know me as I was training along with his support team who were at the training ground every day and there for me if I needed anything so we as a club can move in the right direction and I believe I can be the man to do that.

"Hopefully we will break the seven month mould and get it to a two-and-a-half years at least."

Nolan's first match in charge will be at Wycombe tomorrow and the new O's boss has set his sights on guiding the club back into League One quickly.

Nolan, who will wear number 44 as a player, said: "The reason I was gutted more than anyone that Ian Hendon lost his job was because they hadn't won in so many games and were slipping down the table.

"I've come in and as you've just heard before it's about getting into those play-offs and trying to push to get us back into League One and then hopefully push on to try to get into the Championship because as you can see with the facilities the club's got everything.

"It's baby steps first and then we'll get into the stride hopefully in a year or two. But I'm looking forward to this challenge."
